WAFCON 2026: Oshoala Apologizes for Super Falcons’ Unexpected Loss to Malawi

In her response post-match, Oshoala acknowledged the disappointment felt by the players, coaching staff, and millions of Nigerian supporters who anticipated a positive start or continued success from the defending champions.

The six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year recognized that the Super Falcons did not meet expectations and took on responsibility for the team’s performance.

She reassured fans that the players are committed to returning stronger in their upcoming matches, emphasizing that the defeat would serve as motivation to enhance their play.

Oshoala conveyed gratitude to Nigerians for their steadfast support despite the setback and appealed for continued encouragement as the team strives to defend its title.

The loss to Malawi is considered one of the tournament’s biggest surprises, ending Nigeria’s impressive run and raising questions about the Super Falcons’ campaign.

Head coach Justine Madugu and his technical crew are set to assess the team’s performance as preparations commence for the next game.

Despite this setback, Nigeria is still regarded as a strong contender for the WAFCON title, with fans hopeful that the Super Falcons will make a strong comeback and reignite their quest for another continental championship.
