Spanish football is mourning the death of CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel Alameda, whose remarkable journey from regional football to the professional game ended tragically at the age of 30.
De Miguel died on November 3, 2026, after suffering a serious on-field collision during Tenerife’s league match against FC Andorra the previous evening, according to the supplied account. His story is one of perseverance, late-career breakthrough and a dream achieved against considerable odds.
Born in Madrid on September 21, 1996, De Miguel developed through CDE Lugo Fuenlabrada and CD Leganés before beginning his senior career with Lugo Fuenlabrada in 2016. He then moved through several clubs, including Internacional de Madrid, CF Fuenlabrada and AD Unión Adarve, steadily building his reputation as a forward.
A turning point came in 2019, when he joined CDA Navalcarnero. His goals helped the club earn promotion to Spain’s third tier. He later played for Unionistas de Salamanca before joining CD Castellón in January 2023.
The 2023–24 season proved pivotal. De Miguel scored 16 goals in the Primera Federación, finishing as the leading scorer in his group and helping Castellón secure promotion to the second division.
He made his professional debut in LaLiga Hypermotion in August 2024. A month later, he scored twice in a 2–1 away victory over UD Almería, marking a memorable milestone after years spent working his way through Spain’s lower divisions.
In July 2025, De Miguel signed a three-year contract with CD Tenerife. His contributions helped the club achieve promotion, adding another success to a career increasingly associated with promotion-winning campaigns.
Fatal collision during Tenerife–Andorra match
On November 2, 2026, Tenerife faced FC Andorra at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium. After Tenerife’s early two-goal lead was erased, the match stood at 2–2 in stoppage time.
De Miguel entered as a substitute as Tenerife sought a late winner. During a forward move, he collided with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono, who had advanced beyond his penalty area to challenge for the ball. The goalkeeper was sent off, and medical staff rushed to assist the injured striker.
De Miguel was taken by ambulance to Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. The match was abandoned, with the score level at 2–2. Despite receiving medical treatment, he died the following morning, Tenerife announced.
Tributes followed from across Spanish football, including the Royal Spanish Football Federation and Real Madrid.
A legacy of perseverance
De Miguel’s career statistics reflected his gradual rise: 48 goals in 149 appearances in Spain’s third tier and three goals in 39 appearances in LaLiga Hypermotion, according to the supplied figures.
His story was not simply about goals or promotions. It was about continuing to pursue a professional football career through years of uncertainty and setbacks. He reached the professional stage later than many players, but established himself as a valuable striker and contributed to several promotion campaigns.
His death has cut short a career that still held promise. He is remembered by family, teammates, supporters and the wider football community for his determination and the long journey that brought him to professional football.
