The kidnappers of Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, chairman of Jezco Group, have reportedly upped their ransom demand to N1.5 billion for his release.
According to OBASANJONEWS24, the abductors initially requested N700 million from the family. An anonymous source revealed that the kidnappers made contact with the family, who seemingly agreed to the initial amount in a bid to secure the release of their father.
However, the abductors later increased their demand to N1.5 billion and have ceased further communication with the family, leaving them in a challenging situation as their attempts to re-establish contact have reportedly been unsuccessful.
A week has passed since the elderly businessman was kidnapped, yet both the police and state government authorities have remained silent on the matter. The Anambra State Police Command has not released any official statement regarding the incident.
Ezeokafor was abducted around 2 am on a Tuesday when he left his residence to visit a prayer ground for his annual spiritual renewal, reportedly without his security detail, which allowed the kidnappers to easily capture him.
