In 2027, Kenneth Okonkwo, a leader within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has argued that President Bola Tinubu lacks the qualifications to run for the presidency due to his failure to provide primary and secondary school certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This assertion came after INEC disclosed the credentials and personal details of presidential candidates for the upcoming general election.

Okonkwo pointed out that while Tinubu submitted his university certificate, his primary and secondary school certificates were noticeably absent from the documents released by the electoral commission. This situation has reignited public discourse about the President’s educational background, with critics questioning the missing earlier academic records.

In a post on X, Okonkwo emphasized the necessity of adhering to Nigeria’s educational qualification laws, stressing that no citizen should advance to university without obtaining five O’ Level credits. He further contended that presenting solely a foreign university certificate, without equivalent secondary school documentation, should be grounds for disqualification.

Okonkwo also criticized the judiciary, accusing certain judges of compromising Nigeria’s democratic process through inconsistent legal interpretations. He argued that these judicial decisions have weakened democratic institutions, despite warnings from the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and the National Judicial Council (NJC).

He claimed that some judicial rulings effectively overstep constitutional boundaries by encroaching upon the functions of the executive and legislative branches. These comments contribute to the ongoing political discussion surrounding candidate credentials as the 2027 presidential election approaches.
